Thank you to everybody that stopped by our booth and attended our seminar at the NY Xpo for Business in NYC Wednesday! With over 400 exhibitors and thousands of attendees, the show was a great success. Topics including iPhone application development, social marketing, search engine optimization and web development could be heard at and around the NWI booth all day long. Attendees, exhibitors, dancing mascots, cheerleaders, speakers, and brilliant business minds all gathered for a spectacular day of networking and great conversation. The trade show would not have been complete without the slew of passing business cards, raffle giveways, trade show chochkeys and much needed free coffee stations.

Accompanied by a new sleek booth design, NWI was excited to promote our new mobile product and service offering to this year's show. iPhone/Android application development and mobile marketing in general were the big buzz words heard around the NWI booth. The overwhelming crowds interest in mobile from attendees kept us on our feet all day manning the booth. We heard a lot of great ideas from attendees and the emails and texts coming in post show for appointments and additional info have been incredible.

We can’t forget about our resident public speaker Jon Rondeau. Jon's Mobile Marketing Seminar was a smash! Jon was able to grab the attention of the room with topics covering the history of mobile, the importance of mobile communications, and benefits of using mobile marketing in the business world. The original 45 minute seminar went on for nearly 2 hours with fantastic crowd participation and follow up questions.

The long anticipated wait is over. Apple and AT&T have finally pulled it together and are going to allow iPhone users to send MMS picture messages. They figured that the 2 ½ year wait was long enough. Actually, Apple had this feature readily available for the iPhone months ago, but AT&T was restructuring their already weak infrastructure to allow the stress that MMS messages will cause on their network.

This feature is only going to be available to 3G and 3GS iPhones, but not the original 2G. Amazing that it took this long. If this launch goes well, this could determine the future of AT&T's exclusive contract with Apple, but if it doesn't, well, there's much to be said about that.

Stop wasting your time with website keywords! Google posted a video on YouTube explaining that they don't give any value to the keyword meta tag when it comes to their search results and rankings. Because the meta tag has been abused in the past and a major gateway for spamming, they've given it less and less weight, and as of recently, completely done away with it from their ranking algorithm.

Furthermore, Google also talks about the meta description tag, and its use it search results. Google will use well written meta description in their "snippet" on the search result, but still, even the meta description isn't valued much for search rankings.

Meta Titles, page content and incoming links are still the most important SEO pieces for any website.

What is the most important thing you look for when choosing a web hosting provider? Is it price? Control Panel? Bandwidth? Although these are all important features, the most important characteristic of a good web hosting company is one that handles tech support issues in a timely and satisfactory fashion. It's a web hosting company's true test to see how they react during down times. If your website goes down, or your email address is firing back undeliverables, how long does your web hosting company take to solve these problems? If they only have an online ticketing system, this is unacceptable. Many major companies will only let you send in a support ticket and they'll send you several automatic emails about how they are "escalating your service ticket" and "we'll contact you soon". This is not only frustrating, but now the issue is completely out of control. You can't even get the right person on the phone who is actually working on solving the problem.

The best form of web hosting comes with professional technical support, which can be accessed by phone, all the time, and they will work with you to get your issue solved. Wouldn't it be nice to get a network engineer on the phone and not an operator who doesn't even know what an email alias is? It's that personal touch and customer-to-company interaction that major companies lose. If you cannot get a network engineer on the phone when you have a problem, your web hosting service is not acceptable.

Make sure your web hosting company has phone support. Anything but and you're doing yourself a disservice. www.nwinetworks.com

Web design, just like anything else, has evolved over the years, but recently it has become more noticeable. Techniques like "letter pressing", "transparency", and "light boxes" are among the few that web designers are thriving on. The industry of design and web development moves so quickly that it's so important for a professional company like New Wave Industries to really have a tight crew working together, holding weekly meetings to go over design trends, social networking news, and other emerging technologies in the web development industry. In order to stay on top of all that is going on, it takes hard work, not only from our designers and engineers, but from our marketing & PR, and even our billing department!

It was just yesterday that "Web 2.0" and all of that crazy buzz that came with the term, was alive and kicking. We are tired of hearing about all this hype. However, this buzz word is dead. We are moving into the new age of Web 3.0 and semantic search. The web has been through various stages. First we linked computers together. Then came linking websites together. Now we're moving into a new stage, linking data together and intelligent search engines.

What is a semantic web?

Computers are just machines. They don't have feelings, they can't comprehend thoughts and understand conversation…..yet. Soon, we won't be talking about linking web pages together. We'll be talking about linking relationships

Imagine if you asked a computer a question and had it answered for you as if you were talking to a person. What if you could have a conversation with your computer, and the Internet (or your computer) will be able to interpret what you mean, and provide you information about that subject. This is exactly where the Internet is headed. We are getting ready for a world where everything you do in your everyday life will be controlled by the web.
